This section is a valuable way to bring together young people in a challenging and exciting
environment, allowing them to learn life skills in addition to those specific to handling the crafts.
Established in 2005, our Junior Section is an important part of the Society.
- Junior members (ages 11-17) are able to undergo in-house training courses in the Syntan resulting
in them being able to take command of both our vessels.
- Training consists of navigation skills, reading and understanding charts, compass reading,
understanding weather forecasts and tidal conditions, knot and splicing
techniques and safe and secure mooring skills.
- We also encourage them to have knowledge of engine room techniques.
- New Junior members must have parental consent and parents/guardians should come along as well
to meet the crew and other members.
